Our mission is to provide safe and reliable electric service for our members.

About San Patricio Electric Cooperative

San Patricio Electric Cooperative was built by the communities we serve to deliver reliable, sustainable and affordable electricity. And, because we answer to local members like you, rather than out-of-town shareholders, our electric cooperative has a unique understanding of our local needs. In fact, our leaders and employees live right here in the community.

SPEC is a community-focused organization, providing jobs and investing in the communities we serve. We give back to the community through Youth Tour, our scholarship program, employee community service initiatives, charitable contributions and more.

Being a member of a cooperative distinguishes you from other electric utility consumers, as well as other business relationships, in important ways.

  • Co-op leaders are members of our local community. Our seven board members live right here in our local area and are elected by co-op members just like you. Board members serve three-year terms and elections are held each September, just before our annual meeting.

  • We belong to the communities we serve. Since we are a cooperative, any excess revenue is shared back with members, over time.

Though we are local and provide service to just 7,933 members across 9 counties, we’re also part of something bigger. Across the country, electric cooperatives work together to restore power during major outages, develop new technologies and build infrastructure that benefits us all.

Our cooperative has a rich history of service in our communities, but we’re always looking for new ways to help our members save energy, save money and take advantage of the technology that’s changing the way we live and work.

The opportunity to create something new here, while embracing traditional community values, has never been greater. It’s a passion we share with you, our members, for making our community a place we’re all proud to call home.

That’s the source of our energy at San Patricio Electric Cooperative.

Our Service Territory

SPEC Service Territory

San Patricio Electric Cooperative provides electric distribution for more than 7,933 members across nine counties: Aransas, Bee, Goliad, Jim Wells, Live Oak, McMullen, Nueces, Refugio and San Patricio. In this area, we maintain more than 3,100 miles of overhead and underground electric lines.

Our service area is divided into six districts. SPEC's membership elects local directors from each district to serve on our Board of Directors. In addition, we have one Director-at-Large, who can come from any district.  The red numbers on the map above correspond with each board district.

7 Cooperative Principles

We base our business model on seven cooperative principles. These principles are a key reason that SPEC operates differently from other electric utilities, putting the needs of our members first.

Touchstone Energy Cooperatives

SPEC is part of Touchstone Energy Cooperatives, a nationwide alliance made of more than 750 local, consumer-owned electric cooperatives in 46 states.

Where does our electricity come from? SPEC delivers a diverse, reliable electricity mix to our members.
