The deadline for the Government-in-Action Youth Tour is quickly approaching. Interested students must submit their applications by January 6 to be considered for the all-expenses-paid trip.

SPEC will select two students to attend the Youth Tour in Washington D.C., next June. The recipients will be selected through an essay contest. Students must answer the prompt: Imagine you were elected President; what three things would you plan to accomplish during your term in office.

The chaperoned trip, which takes place June 7 to 16, includes tours of D.C.’s most popular museums, monuments and memorials. Students will visit the Washington National Cathedral, Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Smithsonian Institution and more.

Activities include seeing a performance at the Kennedy Center, going on a boat cruise with dinner and dancing, and meeting elected officials.

What are the requirements?

  • The essay and application must be submitted to SPEC by 5 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2017.
  • The applicant must be a high school junior or senior in SPEC’s service area.
  • The parent or legal guardian of the student must be a member of SPEC.
  • The applicant must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • The student must be in good standing with his or her school.
