Possible Breach for Members Paying by Mail

All News

Our financial institution, Frost Bank, notified us of a security breach to their lockbox banking system. At this time, they are not sure of the extent of the breach, but have said it’s possible that SPEC’s lockbox was accessed.

This potential breach to our lockbox would only affect members who make check payments by mail.

We wanted to make you aware of the situation so you can monitor your bank accounts for suspicious activity. If you notice any fraudulent activity, notify your financial institution immediately.

Frost is cooperating with law enforcement and conducting a forensic investigation along with their IT personnel to determine what information may have been compromised. We will release more information as it becomes available.

Please keep in mind that this possible breach does not affect members who pay their bill in our office, online through SmartHub or through our automated phone system. Only mailed payments go through the lockbox system.

Furthermore, the breach at Frost did not affect bill payments. Any checks that were mailed were processed and posted to the appropriate account, as usual.
