Scholarship Details

SPEC will award $20,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors within our service area. A total of 10 scholarships are up for grabs, each worth $2,000.

Scholarships are available exclusively to students whose parents or legal guardians are SPEC members and receive electric service from the cooperative at the student’s primary address.

Students must be graduating from a high school within our nine-county service territory: San Patricio, Live Oak, Bee, Refugio, McMullen, Jim Wells, Goliad, Aransas and Nueces counties. Students graduating from a nontraditional secondary education within our service area, such as homeschooling, are also eligible to apply.

Applicants must be of good character, as evidenced by at least three letters of recommendation from educators and staff at the school they are currently attending (or homeschool equivalent). An official high school transcript should accompany the student’s application.

Applications are available at www.sanpatricioelectric.org/scholarship.

How are recipients selected?

An independent selection committee, made up of former educators, considers each application and determines which students will receive a scholarship. Before they review each application, SPEC removes all identifying information, so the selection committee does not know whose application belongs to whom.

In making their decision, the selection committee considers financial need, academic achievement, community involvement and leadership abilities.

Recipients are notified within 90 days of the application deadline.
