SPEC Lobby to Reopen May 18

All News

In accordance with Governor Abbott’s plan to reopen Texas, San Patricio Electric Cooperative will reopen its lobby to the public at 8 a.m. on May 18. However, if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please remain at home until your doctor says otherwise. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our employees safe.

In response to the threat posed by the novel coronavirus (“COVID-19”) pandemic, San Patricio Electric Cooperative closed its lobby to the public on March 18.  As local and state officials began enacting “Stay at Home” orders, SPEC directed nearly all employees to work from home beginning March 30. In an effort to further safeguard the health of our line crews who continued to work in the field, we secured additional supplies of disinfectant, face masks and hand sanitizer and asked members to maintain a safe distance and postpone adding new service when possible.

These actions were taken out of an abundance of caution, and with an overwhelming desire to protect the health and welfare of SPEC’s employees and members against the threat posed by COVID-19.

Although there continues to be new cases of COVID-19 within our service area, SPEC’s leadership believes that with the expiration of Governor Abbott’s Stay Home order, it is prudent that SPEC resume normal operations, guided by the advice of our local and state public health officials.

To that end, we are following all recommended health protocols to keep our employees safe as they return to work. We have secured additional supplies of face masks, hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes. All employees will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms each morning before entering our facilities, they will be asked to wash or sanitize their hands every time they enter the office building and to regularly disinfect their work area or truck.

To protect members visiting our office, we will clean and disinfect public surfaces in our lobby and consultation room regularly throughout the day. We ask that you maintain the recommended distance of 6 feet from our employees and other members in our lobby, and out in the field.

While we are anxious to connect with our members face-to-face once again, we would like to remind you that you can continue to do business with the co-op without leaving your home.

  • Outages can be reported by phone, through SmartHub and via text. We are responding to outages and emergencies in our service area and we will continue to do so.

  • As always, payments can be made online, by phone, through the mail or at the drop box at our office if you do not wish to make a payment in person.

  • You can access your account online through SmartHub, where you can view your electricity use history, update your contact information and change your communication preferences. You can also continue to call us for assistance regarding your SPEC account.

  • On our website, we have a wealth of information including online membership applications, meter loop diagrams, tax exempt forms and more.

Although we hope to continue seeing recovery for individuals and businesses impacted by COVID-19, we acknowledge that this situation may continue to evolve over the coming weeks. We will regularly evaluate any measures necessary to protect our employees and members, while continuing to serve you.
