Become Part of the Legacy

Two local high school students will head to Washington D.C., June 15-22 to attend the Government-in-Action Youth Tour, courtesy of San Patricio Electric Cooperative.

The Youth Tour is a youth leadership program sponsored by SPEC and organized by Texas Electric Cooperatives and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. For more than 50 years, electric cooperatives across the state and country have been sending young adults to the nation’s capital for an action-packed tour.

The chaperoned trip includes tours of D.C.’s most popular museums, monuments and memorials.  Participating students will also meet elected officials, see a performance at the Kennedy Center, cruise down the Potomac and learn about rural electrification.

SPEC’s 2025 Youth Tour participants will be selected through an essay contest on the prompt: “Imagine you were elected President; what three things would you plan to accomplish during your term in office?”

The two students that write the most outstanding essays will win the all-expenses-paid trip to the nation’s capital. These deserving students will have the opportunity to connect and explore with more than 1,500 teens from across the county.

You’re eligible to apply if:

✔ You are a high school junior or senior
