SPEC Reduces Board Size, Consolidates Districts

On April 17, 2017 your Board of Directors adopted a resolution to consolidate the co-op’s seven director districts into six, and reduce the size of the board from eight directors to seven.

The decision to consolidate the number of board members and districts came after long-time director, Leonard Jones, retired from the board last September. Mr. Jones represented District 1 for 22 years.

Instead of filling the vacant position, the Board of Directors decided that the best course of action would be to reduce the size of the board and realign the remaining districts. Members from the vacated district were reassigned to Districts 4, 6, 7 and 8. Districts 7 and 8 were then renumbered to 3 and 1, respectively, to keep our district numbering in sequential order.

Members affected by the changes were notified by mail in May.

Directors will continue to serve 3-year terms, with elections held on a rotating basis. This year, we will have two directors up for re-election: Tom Mayo, District 2 and Jim Bassett, District 6.

As usual, the election will be held in September and the results will be announced at the Annual Members Meeting on September 23. Ballots will be mailed and emailed to all of our members the first week of September.
