Two deserving students will head to Washington D.C., next June on an all-expenses-paid trip, courtesy of San Patricio Electric Cooperative. Your cooperative has once again partnered with the Government in Action Youth Tour to provide this life-changing adventure for local students.

The chaperoned trip, which takes place June 11-19, includes tours of D.C.’s most popular museums, monuments and memorials. Students will visit the Washington National Cathedral, Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Smithsonian Institution and more. Activities include learning about rural electrification, seeing a performance at the Kennedy Center, going on a boat cruise with dinner and dancing, and meeting elected officials.

The Government-in-Action Youth Tour is a youth leadership program sponsored by SPEC and organized by Texas Electric Cooperatives and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. For more than 50 years, electric cooperatives across the state and nation have been sending young adults to the nation’s capital for an action-packed tour.

SPEC’s 2023 Youth Tour representatives will be selected through an essay contest. To enter, high school juniors and seniors must submit a 300-to-500-word essay answering, “What makes you a good candidate to represent SPEC on the 2023 Youth Tour and what do you expect to gain from your Washington, D.C. experience?"

The two students that write the most outstanding essays will win the all-expenses-paid trip to the nation’s capital. These deserving students will have the opportunity to connect and explore with more than 1,500 teens from across the county.
