SPEC Statement on COVID-19

San Patricio Electric Cooperative’s staff has been closely monitoring the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) and wants to assure you that we are taking measures to protect the health and safety of our members and employees, while continuing to provide reliable electric service.

First and foremost, we will continue responding to power outages and emergencies in our service area. We know that you depend on your electric service, and it may become even more critical as people opt to self-quarantine at home. We have contingency plans in place to utilize contract lineman in the event a number our employees or their family members contract COVID-19.

When you see our employees working in the field, please limit physical contact as recommended by health officials. A friendly wave is preferred to a handshake.

In our office, SPEC is working to maintain a safe workplace by following the guidelines and encouraging employees to follow the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). In addition, we have canceled any non-essential training and travel for our employees through the end of April.

While our office remains open, we want to remind you of the convenient ways you can do business with the cooperative without leaving your home. Payments, for example, can be made online, by phone or through the mail. You can access your account online through SmartHub, where you can report outages, view your electricity use history, update your contact information and change your communication preferences. On our website, we have a wealth of information including online membership applications, meter loop diagrams, tax exempt forms, scholarship applications and more.

To protect the health and well-being of our employees and members, we ask that you please hold off on requests for new construction service until after the pandemic has passed, if possible.  We will be able to accommodate transferring service and new connects to existing meters as that can be done remotely from our office.

We expect this situation will continue to evolve over the coming days and weeks, and we will regularly evaluate any measures necessary to protect our employees and members, while continuing to serve you.
