At San Patricio Electric Cooperative, we work hard every day to keep your power humming. Despite our best efforts, our members still experience the occasional disruption in service. Storms, car accidents or even curious wildlife can damage power lines and leave you in the dark.
For many of us, these outages are just a minor inconvenience. But for others, a loss of power can be life threatening. Members dependent on electrical medical equipment, including those on SPEC’s Critical Care list, should have a reliable backup plan in place in case of power outages.
Here are a few recommendations:
-
Battery Backup: Purchase an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to provide temporary power for a short period of time.
-
Generator: Invest in a portable or whole-home generator to keep critical devices running during longer outages.
-
Surge Protection: Plug electronic devices into surge protectors to prevent damage.
-
Supplies: Keep an emergency stock of prescriptions and medical supplies on hand in case weather delays a refill.
-
Report Outages Promptly: Call 361-364-2220 or 888-740-2220 (toll-free).
-
Join Our Critical Care List: If someone in your home depends on life-sustaining equipment, complete the necessary forms to join to SPEC’s Critical Care list. A physician’s directive is required.
⚠️ Please note: Inclusion on SPEC’s Critical Care Registry does not guarantee uninterrupted power. If electricity is vital to health or safety, it is your responsibility to ensure a secondary power source is available.
We’re committed to serving you and restoring power as quickly as possible when outages occur. While we’re working for you, make sure you have a plan that works for you too.
