Tropical Storm Harvey Could Affect SPEC Service Area

All News

The remnants of Tropical Storm Harvey are likely to redevelop in the Gulf of Mexico and could affect San Patricio Electric Cooperative’s service area. According to the National Hurricane Center there is a 90 percent chance of the storm regenerating on Wednesday and Thursday. By the time Harvey makes landfall, possibly on Friday, it could be a strong tropical storm or hurricane.

At this time, the storm is not predicted to directly hit the Coastal Bend, but it is possible the trajectory of Harvey could change as it redevelops. Forecasters are currently predicting that the tropical storm or hurricane will make landfall around the Texas-Mexico border and then move north.

Our members can likely expect some heavy rains and possibly some flooding. Strong winds from the storm could cause power outages.

SPEC is monitoring the situation closely. We urge our members to make preparations in the event Harvey strikes in the Coastal Bend or brings heavy rainfall and flooding to the area.

Check your emergency kit, or create one, to be sure you have all the essentials in the event of an extended power outage.
