Two deserving students will head to Washington D.C. next June on an all-expenses-paid trip courtesy of San Patricio Electric Cooperative. SPEC has once again partnered with the Government-in-Action Youth Tour to send students on this life-changing adventure.
This year, the co-op is conducting an essay contest for high school juniors and seniors in which students must answer the question: “How does electricity affect your life.”
The two students who write the most outstanding essays will earn a free, week-long trip to the nation’s capital. These deserving students will have the opportunity to connect and explore with more than 1,500 other students, representing cooperatives from across Texas and the nation.
The chaperoned trip, which takes place June 8 to 17, includes tours of D.C.’s most popular museums, monuments and memorials. Students will visit the Washington National Cathedral, Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Smithsonian Institution and more. Activities include learning about rural electrification, seeing a performance at the Kennedy Center, going on a boat cruise with dinner and dancing, and meeting elected officials.
