All News

Two deserving students will head to Washington D.C., next June on an all-expenses-paid trip, courtesy of San Patricio Electric Cooperative. Your cooperative has once again partnered with the Government-in-Action Youth Tour to send students on this life-changing adventure.

SPEC’s participants for the 2017 Youth Tour will be selected through an essay contest. To enter, high school juniors and seniors must submit a 300-500 word essay answering: “Imagine you were elected President; what three things would you plan to accomplish during your term in office?”

The two students who write the most outstanding essays will earn an all-expenses-paid trip to the nation’s capital. These deserving students will have the opportunity to connect and explore with more than 1,500 other students, representing cooperatives from across Texas and the nation.

The chaperoned trip, which takes place June 7 to 16, includes tours of D.C.’s most popular museums, monuments and memorials. Students will visit the Washington National Cathedral, Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Smithsonian Institution and more. Activities include learning about rural electrification, seeing a performance at the Kennedy Center, going on a boat cruise with dinner and dancing, and meeting elected officials.
