Youth Tour Application Deadline Nears

All News

There are just a few weeks left to apply for the Government-in-Action Youth Tour, an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., June 8–17, sponsored by San Patricio Electric Cooperative and organized by Texas Electric Cooperatives.

SPEC is sending two area students on this once in a lifetime trip next summer. The deadline to apply is January 8.

What is the Youth Tour?

The Youth Tour is an action-packed trip to the U.S. capital with about 125 of your peers and chaperones from across Texas. You’ll visit the Washington National Cathedral, Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Smithsonian Institution, memorials and more. Activities include learning about rural electrification, seeing a performance at the Kennedy Center, going on a boat cruise with dinner and dancing, and meeting elected officials.

You could be part of this legacy shared by the more than 3,800 past Texas Youth Tour students who have participated since 1965. To apply, submit an application and 300-500 word essay, to be judged by San Patricio Electric Cooperative. This year’s essay topic is: how does electricity affect your life.

Eligible entrants must:

  • Be a HS junior or senior
  • Be a dependent of a SPEC member
  • Submit an application and essay on the topic: how does electricity affect your life

Applications must arrive at SPEC’s office by January 8 at 5 p.m. They can be submitted by:

  • Mail to PO Drawer 400, Sinton, TX 78387
  • Email to pr@sanpatricioelectric.org
  • Fax to 361-364-3467
  • Hand delivery to 402 E. Sinton St., Sinton, TX 78387
